Artificial Rainfall
Introduction
Nowdays a lack of sufficient available water resources to meet water needs is observed, as a result of water shortage caused by climate change, pollution, increased human demand and overuse of water all over the world. Therefore there is necessity of considering some technologies such as "Artificial Rainfall" in order to meet water needs with a region.
Artificial Rainfall
Definition -
Artificial Rainfall , also known as "Rainmaking or Artificial Precipitation" is the act of attempting to artificially induce or increase precipitation, usually to stave off drought. According to the cloud's different physical properties, this can be done using airplanes or rockets to sow to the clouds with catalysts such as dry ice, silver iodide and salt powder, to make clouds rain or increase precipitation, to remove or mitigate drought, or to increase reservoir irrigation water or water supply capacity.
Motivation
As a future stakeholder involved in Environmental Management/and or Water Resources management in our countires, we would like to understand how Artificial Rainfall Technology can be used to meet water needs (ex. for agriculture purposes) in case of drought or water shortages.
When we chose topic, we read an interesting article. It is about 'Artificail Rainfall'. According to the article, there was an experiment that makes artifical snow all over the Pyeong Chang. Because of the winter Olympic at 2018 in Pyeong Chang, people felt the need to provide against winter drought. So they wanted to know how useful artificial rainfall is to solve the problem of winther drought. But they failed to know about success or failure of experiment. The persons concerned said that there were 23 times of artificial rainfall experiment after 2008, and in case of using airplane, it had a success rate of 43%. In the present situation, they don't know if rainmaking can use in Olympics. We take an interest in these things, and feel curiosity about its principle, effect, efficiency.
